When I say, let go, it means to let go of your worries and fears.
You don't have to give up on life, you just need to let God be the driving force in your life. And the most effective way to purify your driving force is to obey God's precepts and get into His Word. Let His truth become yours. So He can manifest His power over your life.

Your past is past! Nothing will change that. Without a God-given purpose to shape our life, we become driven by destructive influences for we are all motivated by something."Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered."
If you have bitterness, you are only hurting yourself with your bitterness more than you know. For your own sake, learn from it, and let it go.
Without a God-given purpose for the future many people are driven by guilt & fear from the past. Many of us are unable to forget because of their unwillingness to forget what lies behind. Even though we are products of our past but we don't have to be prisoners by it either. God's purpose in our life is shaping us for His eternal glory. Our enemy, Satan, is unwilling to give up on trying to constantly messing us up whenever he has the chance, one who is constantly looking for someone to devour but only when we allow it for ourselves. God on the other hand, loves to take what's ugly and make it beautiful. His purposes are not neutralized by the mess we make of life.
